Trains, Planes and Automobiles

Brian and I joked that we should have bought truck driver hats to commemorate all the driving we did this holiday (1750+miles and that's only in the car). We didn't remember to take pictures at every leg, or the camera was buried underneath all the bags.
On our way to John Day Dec 21.On our way to Izee Dec 22 (didn't think there was a place more remote than John Day did you?)

Leaving Izee for John Day Dec 22.
A church in Fox on our way back to Pendleton Dec 25.Dec 26 we took the day off and just stayed at my parents in Pendleton. But on the 27th, Brian and I got up early to drive to Portland and catch a flight to San Francisco for the OSU bowl game. Here's a shot of our rainy drive thru the Gorge.I forgot to take a picture both ways on the plane, but here's Brian waiting for the BART (train) to head downtown to our hotel.
In a hurry to get back to Pendleton and see the boys before bed, we decided to just take pictures out the window.
Dec 30, less than a 12 hour break between trips, we head to John Day to attend Brian's Uncle Gary's funeral. It snowed a lot between visits.
This trip was very much a rural wildlife safari. This is a bobcat.
Look just to the right of the middle tree and you'll spot one of the 100 or so elk we saw on the way there (and most of them on the way back too). There were also a couple dozen deer. It was making me very nervous as we hit a deer in Pendleton.
Here are wild turkeys, about 8 of them. At the beginning of the day (we left early) we saw bats. After these turkeys, we saw two bald eagles fly off from the side of the road and beside us into a tree. In contrast, we only saw 2 cars and 2 snow plows in the first half of our trip to John Day which is 160 miles.
